In the second book of the Bible Exodus 3, Moses had an encounter with God in the burning bush that changed his destiny. This happened after Moses was exiled from Egypt because he killed an Egyptian. The Lord told Moses that he was going to be used to set the children of Israel out of captivity form the hand of Pharaoh.
Moses encounter with God frightened him because he could not comprehend in his finite mind why the creator of the universe, the God of his forefathers chose him in spite of all of his idiosyncrasy to set his people free from the hands of Pharaoh; The most powerful man and nation at the time. I can only imagine the mixed emotions, thoughts, and feelings running through Moses' mind.
After God told Moses his new task, Moses asked they Lord, "What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, 'The Lord did not appear to you'? Then the Lord said to him, What is that in your hand?" (Exodus 4:1,2).
Like Moses, many of us believe the lie that in order to do what God has called, anointed, and appointed us to do; we must have all the resources and materials needed to accomplish the task. That is not true. You can have limited or no resources and still be successful at what you do. Let me give you four reasons:
Reason One: Use What You Have
Every mega church, Fortune 500 Company, and successful entrepreneurs will tell you how important it is to utilize the resources that you have. In other words, regardless of the type of business or organization that you have, if you put more energy or focus on what you wish you had instead of what you already have, your business, ministry, or dreams may never come true or be successful.
I've heard so many churches and business owners say, "If I only had more money or resources, I could do much better." That is not true because if you only have $20 in your bank account and cannot find an effective use for it, the same thing will happen if you had $2 million dollars. Stop focusing all your attention and strength on what you wish you had. Instead, use everything, pennies, dimes, taking the bus, walking, to your advantage. Don't let what you don't have stop you from doing what you can.
Reason Two: Create a Need for God to meet
The heart of God is to bless his people in every area (not just financially) of their lives. Moses exemplifies this for us after successfully taking the children of Israel out of Egypt . The same staff that he under looked was the same staff that fed him, protected him, and helped him.
When the children of Israel arrived at the red sea, Moses had a need, and that need was for God to help them. They needed God's help because the red sea was before them and Pharaoh's army was behind them. "Then the Lord said to Moses, why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground" (Exodus. 1415-:16). Sometimes God will put you in certain situations to let you know that He is Jehovah Jira (your provider). So how do you create a need for God to meet? Good questions.
At the age of Seventeen I had saved up enough money in the bank to purchase my first car? Kia Sephia. I was excited and could not wait to get the car. What made it even better was that I was going to be paying cash for it.
After three years of driving the car, I decided to upgrade. So I bought a new car?Nissan Altima 2.5 SL. The difference between these cars was this, when I bought the Kia I didn't have to worry about car payments since I paid it in full. However, when I bought the Altima, I had to make monthly car payments.
The point of this example is this: whenever you create a need for God to meet, you must step out in faith; I new that by buying a new car would require me to trust God to meet my needs (making car payments, insurance, car maintenance, etc) and like Moses, He did.
Never underestimate the importance and power of your prayers. Prayer changes things! If you are facing a rough time in your business, life, or church; all you need to do is send Jesus a knee mail. However, this time when you pray, instead of praying and asking God for x, y, and z, just give Him thanks. God already knows what you need and He is going to meet every need that you have.
Reason Three: Prayer
Even though it's okay to ask God for things (the Bible told us to) don't let that be the only prayer you pray. Learn to pray to God even when things are not going well in your life or surroundings. Give thanks to God for what you have. By praying to God on a consistent basis, you improve your prayer life. Satan gets most of his victory from people who don’t have a consistent prayer life. He knows that because you don’t talk to God regularly, he will present certain things to you that seems godly but aren’t. He knows that because of your lack of communication with God, he will be more likely to deceive you.
Reason Four: Are Content?
Because of life's circumstances, we sometimes get so overwhelmed that we become angry, frustrated, and disappointed at God. Let me ask you a couple of questions: If your circumstance was to never change, will you still be happy and content? Will you still serve God? Sometimes God will allow us to go through certain things (like limited your resources) to see if you are going to be content with little or nothing. He will use that to test your contentment in life.
We live in a fast paced society that wants things fast? Fast cars, women, men, food, etc. And when we don't get the things we want when we want them, we become unhappy and not content with what we already have. If you can prove to God, not man that you can be content in spite of what you go through, He will bless you with more.
Conclusion
I hope that you will pray and ask God to teach you how to use the resources that you already have at your disposal. When you focus your attention on what you have, what you don't have will come to you in due season.
Let us together pray:
"Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that you will help me to utilize the resources that you have already given me. Please help me not to focus on what I wish I had instead of appreciating what I already have. I dedicate my church, business, life, into your hands. In the mighty name of Jesus name. Amen.
